What is School of the Spirit?
School of the Spirit is a six-month course to help us live more like Jesus: secure in our God-given identity, filled with his power, and carrying the Kingdom of God wherever we go.
Through a combination of teaching, ministry, worship, and small groups, we will learn to live lives empowered by the Holy Spirit. We will take risks, grow in hearing God and depending on him, and have fun together on the journey.

When is the next course?
School of the Spirit has been running for six years and over 200 people have taken part. It’s a joy to keep hearing testimonies of the difference it’s made in people’s lives and in their churches.
As we came towards the end of this year’s course, I felt the Lord say, “It’s time for a fallow year.” This was a surprise to me, as we were fully anticipating starting again in October as usual. But I wondered whether God was asking us to pause for a year of rest and replenishment to enable fresh growth. I resolved to pray further about this, and then the next Tuesday at School of the Spirit the speaker shared a story about God asking her to stop a group that she was involved in, which led to further growth and multiplication. Then she said, “I believe that’s a word of knowledge for someone here – God is asking you to pause something good to allow for fresh growth.”
That got my attention! And as we’ve weighed it and sought input from others, we’ve received similar words and have concluded that God is indeed asking us to pause School of the Spirit for a fallow year. So we will not be running the course as anticipated this autumn.
I know that will be a disappointment to some who were hoping to do the course this year, but a fallow year is not an end! It’s a season of intentional rest for replenishment, to enable further growth. So we fully expect to restart in October 2027. Hello, we are Liam and Helen Thatcher!
We are passionate about following Jesus, and learning to grow in the gifts that he gives us. We moved to Oxford in 2021, following a series of dreams and prophetic words, and we are loving the adventure of following God.
Together, we are part of the team at Oxford Community Church, and serve on the vision team for Salt & Light Advance. We have the privilege of leading School of the Spirit, along with a great team of volunteers.
School of the Spirit has been such a great way of learning with others, growing in faith, spiritual gifts, and relationship with God. We’re excited to see what this next year holds in store, and would love for you to join us.
